Yuri (百合) basically refer to lesbians. It derives it's name from the lily flower, being white it reflects the purity of a relationship without man. The oposite of yaoi (gay) but with similar story lines, common themes and subgenres are Sempai or Upperclassman women seducing younger girls (lesbian virgins) and girls of the same age falling in love, also childhood friends and schoolgirls are popular themes.
